The familiar scent of lilac is always a welcome sign that spring is in the air.  The naturally calming, soothing and relaxing properties of this gorgeous flower have been used in aromatherapy while it is also known for its tonic and antiseptic properties which treat many skin ailments including sunburns, rashes, minor cuts and scrapes.

Use fresh flowers in bath or make infused lilac oil using dried flowers.  Fill a sterilized mason jar with clean dried lilacs, cover with olive oil & tightly seal the jar.  Leave in a sunny spot and shake jar regularly for 2 weeks. Strain. This infused oil may be used in bath, massage & as a mild antiseptic.  Use within 2 months.

Does dry itchy skin have you irritated?  Scratch out that itch with oats! As early as 2000 BC, the Arabians, Egyptians, Greeks and Romans documented the use of oats to heal and beautify the skin. This useful grain is known for its moisturizing, cleansing, and soothing properties.  Oats are also used for relief of dry, itchy skin, eczema, outer inflammation, chicken pox, mosquito bites, mild burns, and basically any type of irritated skin.

For a basic face mask simply grind up oats in coffee grinder and add milk or water to make a paste.  Cover face with mask, leave on for 15-20 minutes or until dry and rinse off.  This paste may also be applied to relieve chicken pox, mosquito bites, burns or any other skin irritation.

Enjoy an oat bath for all over body relief.  Add a small handful of oats to the middle of a cheesecloth or J-cloth.  Fold over until all four corners are touching and oats are in a pouch.  Secure with a twist tie or elastic band.  Hang this oat filled pouch under tap and run bath.  Once tub is filled float the pouch in water, squeeze regularly to release oat milk, lay back and enjoy your moisturizing, soothing bath!

Large pores or acne sores got you red in the face? Throw tomatoes at them!!!  Tomatoes are naturally astringent, rich in vitamin A, vitamin C and vitamin K which help in reducing acne, eradicating blackheads, minimizing pores, lightening & smoothing the skin.  High in lycopene, consuming tomatoes regularly can also protect against sunburn & sun-induced skin aging.

Simply apply organic tomato paste to clean face.  Leave on for 15 minutes & rinse off.  Fresh mashed tomatoes may be also be used.  For combination skin blend honey or avocado with tomato paste to create a more moisturizing, nutrient rich treatment.
Use this mask 2-3 times a week & you will no longer be stewing over acne.

AN APPLE A DAY

4/9/2013

Picture
An apple a day keeps the plastic surgeon away. Apples are rich in vitamins A, B, and C and contains malic acid which helps the skin absorb these vitamins. Apple facials can help to reduce or control blemishes, lighten your skin tone, exfoliate the skin, help to replenish and rejuvinate the outer skin cells, and the vitamin C acts as an antioxidant to combat the aging process.

For a simple apple face mask apply unsweetened organic applesauce to clean face. Allow to dry & wash off. Keep your eyes peeled for more natural beauty tips & tricks.

Stop & smell the oranges!!! The next time you are enjoying a fresh orange snack take the time to inhale & appreciate the citrus scent. The aroma of an orange is known to be beneficial in aiding anxiety, insomnia & nervousness. It is also known for it's stress-reducing, uplifting & antidepressant qualities.

Don't just throw out those peels. Add boiling water to orange peels & store in fridge over night. This infusion can be used on face as a toner for improving your texture, complexion, preventing  aging and helps in firming of skin. It can also be used as a hair rinse for shiny, flake free tresses! Keep refrigerated & use within one week.
